Global Immersion Programme
Introduction
In this globalized world, market opportunities and business operations are not restricted by national boundaries. In view of this, the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration (B&A) organizes a Global Immersion Programme (GIP) to prepare students for the challenges in the international business environment. The GIP is designed to support students in developing their potential in the internationalized environment. It aims to instill in students a deeper understanding of a foreign culture and its society and environment, and expose students to a broader overview and understanding of international business. The four-year GIP is composed of three main components: Intercultural Awareness and Communication Training, Overseas Study Tour Experience and Global Business Executive Development.There are four courses in the programme. The first two courses focus on enhancing students’ intercultural awareness and communication skills. The third and the fourth courses provide students with the opportunities to develop a global mindset, and their business executive skills and cross-cultural leadership skills.
Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing GIP, students will be able to:
1.Communicate effectively and confidently with people from different cultural backgrounds;
2.Understand and value differences between themselves and people from other cultural backgrounds;
3.Consider social and business issues form global and multicultural perspectives; and
4.Apply culturally-competent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

1: BUS B081F Global Immersion Programme (Undergraduate Year 1) Course
2: BUS B082F Global Immersion Programme (Undergraduate Year 2)
These two courses aim to prepare students for challenges in the international business environment by enhancing their cultural awareness. They are designed to provide students with opportunities to understand how cultural diversity affects business practices. Students are required to acquire a foreign language and learn about the culture.
There are about 22 language lessons in the course. To encourage student participation, interactive activities including group activities and student presentations are used.These activities support students’ development in communication skills and intercultural awareness. Cultural awareness seminars are also organized to enhance students’ awareness of culture and heritage of different social and cultural groups, and expand students’ horizons in both culture and business arenas.Students can utilize the Online Learning Environment (OLE), which contains notes and PowerPoint files from teachers and hyperlinks to useful websites and other relevant resources. There will also be a GIP mobile app for students to interact with the teaching staff and other students. Assessment Pass/ Fail grading system is adopted as the assessment method of the course. To pass the course (BUS B081F / BUS B082F), students are required to have a minimum attendance of 80% (about 17 lessons) in the language class, attend at least three cultural awareness seminars and complete a final reflective learning journal.

4: BUS B084F Global Immersion Programme (Undergraduate Year 4)These courses aim to help senior year students get prepared for challenges in the workplace and in the international business environment. They are designed to provide students with opportunities to develop their global business competence to deal with real-life challenges. A number of seminars and career talks are arranged in each of the courses. A two-week overseas study tour is organized in BUS B083F/BUS B086F to immerse students in another culture and familiarize them with the social and business environment of a foreign country. The study tour is also an opportunity for students to foster their cultural awareness and communication skills. A competitive team event called the Hackathon is organized in BUS B084F to engage students in group problem-solving simulations. The event is also a good chance for students to sharpen their soft skills and further develop their leadership skills. Assessment Pass / Fail grading system is adopted as the assessment method of the courses. To pass the course (BUS B083F / BUS B086F /BUS B084F), students are required to attend at least seven seminars / career talks, participate in the study tour1(BUS B083F / BUS B086F) / the team event (BUS B084F) and complete a final reflective learning journal. Please note that out of the seven seminars required for students, two of the seminars must be Dale Carnegie seminars/workshops.
1Programme fee of the study tour is included in tuition. The programme fee does not include air passage, food, accommodation and other incidental expenses. Students need to pay for their air passage, food accommodation and other incidental expenses.
